An incredible new mural created incollaboration with the Confederated Villages of Lisjan Nation, artist Cece Carpio, Shishi Madriz, and the Berkeley High School Native Student Union is now up!
The mural is a visual land acknowledgement, depicting Indigenous and Intertribal people of many lineages coming together in cultural celebration on Ohlone Lands. Members of the Villages of Lisjan Nation, Danzantes, wildflowers, Indigenous youth, and and the vision of the restored West Berkeley Shellmound rise against a bright sunrise, wrapping around the northern corner of the Berkeley School District building in bright colors.
More than 40 people contributed to the creation of this piece, including a class of fifth graders who advocated for approval of the mural in public processes<3 Thanks to all that helped with a special shout out to:
